Itinerary

Day 1: Sumapaz National Park

It is located in the province of Sumapaz, on the Eastern Andean Mountain Range, in the department of Cundinamarca. It is a locality in the Capital District of Bogota. Sumapaz Paramo, is considered the largest paramo ecosystem in the world. Our target there include: Bearded Helmecrest, Apolinar’s Wren, Bogota Rail, Bronze-Tailed Thornbill, Chestnut-Winged Cinclodes, Many-Striped Canastero, Andean Tit-spinetail, Paramo Seed-eater, Plain-Coloured Seedater and Black-Chested Buzzard-eagle.

In the afeternoon we will be transferred to the city of Villavicencio in the eastern slope of the Eastern Andes, we may do some stops on the way depending on the hour, looking for some specialties such as Cliff Flycatcher and Speckled Chachalaca.

Overnight Rancho Camaná

Day 2: Bavaria Forest & Rancho Camaná Reserve.

In the morning we will visit Bavaria Forest, a small but very productive patch of forest located in the foothills of the Colombian eastern plains, northwest of the city of Villavicencio, capital of the department of Meta (Colombia). Main targets there will be Amazonian Motmot, Gilded Barbet, Grey-chinned Hermit, Yellow-billed Nunbird, Yellow-tufted Woodpecker, Silver-beaked Tanager, Turquoise Tanager, Black-faced Dacnis, Black-faced Antbird, Black-throated Antbird and Pectoral Sparrow.

In the afternoon, we will enjoy Rancho Camaná Reserve. 

Overnight at Rancho Camaná Reserve.

Day 3- 5: Mururito Lodge.

Mururito is a private reserve of 2000 hectares that conserve the natural grassland of llanos and the areas of tropical, riparian and secondary forest. There we will find an array of eastern Colombian birds such as White-bearded Flycatcher, Burrowing Owl, Black faced Tanager, Black-crested Antshrike, Scaled Piculet, Scarlet, White, Green, Glossy, Buff-necked, Bare-faced and Sharp-tailed Ibis and many more.

This reserve also is habitat for many mammal species such as Neotropical River Otter, Giant Otter, Hoffmann's Two-toed Sloth, Mountain Lion, Central American Ocelot, Jaguar, Llanos long-nosed Armadillo, Brazilian Porcupine, Giant Armadillo, Crab-eating Fox, White-lipped Peccary, South American Tapir, Northern Tamandua and Giant Anteater, we will try to see that elusive wildlife during day and some nights.

Day 6: Drive back to Bogota.

After breakfast, we will start the way back to Bogota, we may do some stops on the way trying to see some of the species we may lose the days before.
